ASAŞ, which is ranked as one of the top 100 industrial organizations in Turkey, was presented an prize by Operational Research Association (ORA) as part of ‘‘ORA Application Prizes, Industrial Engineering or Operational Research Methods’’ which has been organized since 2008. The third prize was presented to ASAŞ by the Chairman of ORA, Dr. Selim Aktürk, with the project entitled ‘‘Ensuring One Piece Flow of Heat Insulation Line’’ during the ceremony that was held at Aqua Marine facilities in Izmir on 14.07.2016.
The prize-winning project of ASAŞ, one of the leading producers in Europe, was prepared under the leadership of the relevant department and project managers, with the contribution of all blue and white collar teams at Aluminium Extrusion Production Facilities. The targets of the project, which was developed by using industrial engineering or operational research methods, were to increase the efficiency of the line, to provide an ergonomic working environment and to prevent losses of orders. One piece flow was ensured by using line balancing method, and production quantity was increased with less personal and working ergonomics was improved. The system and equipment designed for line balancing were developed by machine-fixtures R&D prototype development workshop within ASAŞ Aluminium Extrusion Production Facilities.
Time study, method study, line balancing and Kanban techniques were used in this exemplary project designed to bring the business processes of ASAŞ, which is the leader in its sector, into perfection and at the end of project, the production quantity was increased by 380%, the number of working personnel was reduced by 48% and the pending workload was reduced by 73%.
ASAŞ assesses the activities carried out during the year to guarantee and maintain continuous success and organizes an internal project contest. ASAŞ rewards all improvement and development activities within the Company through its traditional ‘‘Stars of ASAŞ’’ project contest, and continues to support the development under various categories at its all production facilities and head office. The company continues its activities to ensure the development of innovative thinking culture at all levels of the organization, and aims to make a contribution to the growth of the Turkish economy through its innovative products, processes and projects.
